I have had the privilege to serve as your Mayor for two wonderful years and as a Councilmember for two more years. While serving the Town, I have had the opportunity to work with an incredibly talented group of individuals. Together, we as a Council along with our Staff have had to make some very difficult decisions. Our Town was not immune from the economic hardships that devastated communities across the country. We had a choice to make: continue to spend or make the appropriate cuts to reflect our dwindling revenues. We chose the latter. We cut our budget by 30% and our staff by 29%, all without sacrificing vital town services, keeping the majority of our "Rainy-Day Fund" in place. I am proud of our team, and I am sure history will show that we made the correct decisions.
Over the nearly four years that I have served our community in an elected position, I am proud to say that I have never missed a Council meeting. While some have tried to get rid of our Post Office, I fought for its survival, and I am proud to say, we still have our Post Office, with a commitment to keep it. I also fight off attempts to get rid of our police monitored alarm system. I supported your right to vote for your Mayor. I also fought against the notion of a property tax for our Town and fought against the sales tax increase.
According to new research from On Numbers, Paradise Valley has the highest quality of life of any municipality in Arizona. We must continue to preserve this rare distinction and the character of our Town by fighting to preserve the open space and low density that we currently enjoy.
I ask you for your support and your vote as I seek one final term (re-election to) on your Council. We have a great deal of work ahead of us. We must implement a new General Plan and shepherd in new resort developments. We are finally on track to rid our Town of the dilapidated eyesore at Mountain Shadows. We need Councilmembers who will work with the developer to insure that a good project is in place without destroying the character of our Town.
I am excited about the future of our Town. I hope that I have served you well. I once again ask for your support and vote.
